The Sub-Youth Interprovincial Track and Field Championships will see some of the country’s top young athletes (u.7–u.15) descend on the Kenneth McArthur Athletics Stadium this coming Saturday, (24 November). Athletics Central North West will host this prestigious athletics event that will be like an unofficial SA Championships for the athletes in this specific age category. Five age groups (u.7, u.9, u.11, u.13 and u.15) will take part on the track and field, representing their particular provinces. Athletics Gauteng North (AGN) and Central Gauteng will once again be the front-runners in this unique event, which will see both primary and junior high school athletes competing for gold.

The host province will also look to a few local athletes to perform well at these championships. The likes of Danielle Verster in the middle distance, Phemelo Molale in the sprints and Karmen Fouché in the high jump and long jump will be athletes to keep an eye on. Janise Nell will also be a frontrunner in the 5000 m race walking category.

According to ACNW president, Jean Verster, some 2 000 athletes will take part and between 2 000–3 000 spectators will witness the action on Saturday. ‘All the top provinces except Western Province will take part in this championship. We are looking forward to a fantastic day of athletics action. We are confident that our North West athletes will perform well,’ he said.
*The action will start in the early morning at 07:30 with 92 items set to take place.’
