NWU spinner, Ruan Haasbroek, was one of the heroes in his side’s close 26 run-win against the NMU-Madibaz in a low scoring encounter in the second match at the 2018 USSA (University Sports South Africa) cricket week.

Haasbroek took 5/30 to take NWU to a much needed and crucial victory to qualify for the semi-finals. He was also assisted by Katle Leokaoke (2/13) in a bowling performance that spin dominated.

NWU batted first and made 125 all out with only Lesego Senokwane making any headway with the bat in a courageous knock of 44 (125). Henro Janse van Rensburg also assisted Senokwane with a vital 29 (65) in the context of the match.

The Madibaz’ Kenan Smith with 4/31 was the main destroyer with the ball in hand.

The NWU though followed that up by dismissing the Madibaz for only 99 with their bowlers putting in another stellar performance.
