Will the rain stay away at Senwes Park this Friday?
Every cricket-loving fan will be hoping so when the bizhub Highveld Lions and VKB Knights battle in the CSA T20 competition on Friday, 12 April.
Interestingly, the Lions and Knights players haven’t finished a T20 match against each other in over two and a half years.
The previous two T20 matches ended in no results with rain intervening. You would have to go back to 9 December 2016 in Potch for the last scores, where the Knights won by three runs, according to the Duckworth/Lewis method. Even in that match, rain also reduced the overs. I am no weatherman but a pattern does seem to have developed of late when these two sides meet in the shorter format.
When looking at both squads on the pitch, the Lions should take the win on home turf. The likes of Ryan Rickelton, Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen (Triple R) and Wihan Lubbe provide enough firepower to let sixes rain, while the speedy Beuran Hendricks and spin of Bjorn Fortuin will also be key factors.
The Proteas all-rounder and former NW Dragons star, Dwaine Pretorius, will also be one of the top players on his old home turf. The Knights cannot be counted out with Pite van Biljon, Rudi Second and the former Lions spinner, Eddie Leie, looking to spoil the party.
The match starts at 18:00.
Tickets (R30 for scholars, R50 for adults) are available at Senwes Park and ticketpros.co.za.
