Afghanistan get ready for 2019 Cricket World Cup with Potch training camp
The Afghans, under the guise of former West Indian all-rounder, Phil Simmons (coach) and Gulbadin Naib (captain) are busy with a training camp in preparation for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, as well as their upcoming tour to Scotland at the start of May.
The Afghanistan and Canada National Cricket teams are currently in Potchefstroom for their respective training camps.
The Afghans, under the guise of former West Indian all-rounder, Phil Simmons (coach) and Gulbadin Naib (captain) are busy with a training camp in preparation for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, as well as their upcoming tour to Scotland at the start of May. Afghanistan will use Potch as a base until the 28th of April.
The Canadians will stay a shorter while in Potch, until the 18th April, in preparation for the ICC World Cricket League division two playoffs that will take place in Namibia from 20-27 April.
These two nations played against each other in a practice match today (Monday, 15 April) at Senwes Park. Afghanistan’s pacers, Dawlat Zadran and Sayed Shirzad as well as spinner, Qais Ahmed impressed. The experienced left-hander, Najibullah Zadran was also in good form with the bat. Regulars, Mohammed Nabi, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Zadran, are on Indian Premier League (IPL) duty and will only join the squad in Scotland.
