A total of 39 wickets have fallen on just two action packed days in the first 4-day franchise match of the season between the Lions and the Cape Cobras at Senwes Park this past week.
The Lions batting first made 215 all out, before the Lions restricted the Cobras to only 129 all out with Lions and former Proteas spinner, Aaron Phangiso picking up 4/43 on a dusty pitch. Proteas spinner, Bjorn Fortuin, also picked up 4/34 as the spinners had a field day.
The Lions then fell into the same trap on the second day as Cobras left arm spinnersd continued the trend on the spin friendly surface with a fantastic haul of 7/64 to restict the Lions to 119 all out.
This left the Cobras needing of 206 and they ended dasy two on 191/9 needing only 15 runs on the final morning today. Cobras wicketkeeper batsman, Kyle Verreynne (50 off 64) kept the innings together whilst a number of players faltered in the chase.
The Lions spinners, Fortuin and Phangiso will look to take the final wicket to ensure a memorable victory whilst, Cobras tailender Tladi Bokakao, and batsman Aviwe Mgijima will want to take the visitors to a close one wicket victory.
