Two low-scoring matches were on the cards last weekend when the Senwes North West Dragons women took on the KZN Coastal women at the Witrand Oval. In two closely fought matches (One Day on Saturday and T20 on Sunday), both sides achieved one victory each. The KZN Coastal side beat the Dragons by 15 runs (Duckworth-Lewis method) on Saturday, after afternoon rain saw an earlier conclusion.
In the T20 match on Sunday, the Dragons got their revenge with a six-wicket win.
The One Day encounter saw KZN Coastal score 203/9 before North West were restricted to 188 all out. NW’s Proteas star, Masabatha Klaas, took (4/47) with her control and guile almost giving her a five-wicket haul. Delmi Tucker was NW’s best batter, scoring 53 (73). Dheyanka Naidoo (5/48) picked up her wicket and was largely responsible for a lower-order collapse.
The home team pulled up their socks on Sunday and registered a six-wicket win, thanks to the young Nthabiseng Nini (2/23) with the ball and a solid 43 (38) from captain Tazmin Brits.
KZN Coastal could only muster 119/6 before North West overhauled the required target with two overs to spare.
