Cosmos snatch important win to progress in Nedbank Cup

Earlier, Debouto opened the scoring for Cosmos in the 20th minute to give Jomo Sono’s lads a well-deserved lead.

The victory was sugar sweet for Jomo Cosmos as they surged to a 2–1 win against the University of Pretoria (Tuks) in the preliminary round of the Nedbank Cup match last weekend.
In this crunch encounter at Olën Park, goals from Quentin Debouto and Sicelo Mkhize sealed the win. It was Mkhize’s winning strike that sent the crowd into a frenzy after Tuks’ Collins Mbesuma had earlier dampened the mood with his equaliser from the penalty spot.

Earlier, Debouto opened the scoring for Cosmos in the 20th minute to give Jomo Sono’s lads a well-deserved lead. A superb pass from Tumelo Matona gave Debouto the opportunity he took with both hands. Cosmos was valiant in defence, but Sicelo Hlatshwayo’s foul on Kevin Maswanganyi gave Tuks a way back in. The experienced 35-year-old Mbesuma took the penalty with ease as Tuks found their way again.

Cosmos would not be deterred, though, as Mkhize scored the vital winner after pouncing on a loose ball in the box.
Cosmos next faces Steenberg FC in the Glad Africa Championship at Olën Park on Sunday, 8 December.
The match will start at 15:30.
