Potchefstroom may not always have been a hotbed for the cream of SA talent. But, players like the Jomo Cosmos winger, Kagiso Ndlovu, is currently paving the way for the next generation of young Potchefstroomers.
Ndlovu, who has been in and out of the Glad Africa Championship, Jomo Cosmos, starting line-up since joining in 2017, has proven his worth this season, alongside another Potchefstroomer at Cosmos, Lefa Lebalelo.
Ndlovu, a left- and right-winger, has enjoyed his time at Cosmos under the guidance of Jomo Sono, whom he describes as a “legend of football.”
“Under him, I have matured as a player. I respect him on all levels. Cosmos is a big club, so I have improved on a professional level. I now know what it takes to become the best – hard work, discipline and a love for the game,” stated Ndlovu, who went to Tlokwe Secondary School. For Ndlovu, that love for the game started in Potchefstroom when he got involved with Great Professionals FC at the age of nine. His big break came when a Jomo Cosmos scout spotted him in a friendly while he was playing against Cosmos in his Great Professionals FC kit in 2017.
“That paved the way for me to where I am now,” said Ndlovu who now lives in Johannesburg.
“I want to encourage other youngsters to pitch up and get noticed through hard work and focus.
“You should keep pushing because you never know who might be watching.”
Ndlovu, whose friends and teammates call him “Happy Feet” or “KG”, is positive that he will continue performing in the yellow strip of Cosmos. “If I can do it, then anyone can. Before joining Cosmos, I was a central midfielder and I have since transformed my game into wing-based play. “The most important aspect for any footballer is to keep pushing and never give up.”
