A new young talent from Potchefstroom Girls High is making the grade in the local lawn bowls circuit. Lezandri Hildebrand (15), a grade 9 learner from Girls High in Potchefstroom recently won the silver medal in the Singles Ladies Championship bowls final at the Potchefstroom Country Club (PCC) last month. This is a great achievement for such a young player, probably the first in any club to achieve playing in a final of such a huge competition.
Lezandri faced off against the experienced Anne-Marie Coetzee in the final with the latter taking the gold. This Girls High learner is also in the under 20 and under 30 teams for Northwest Bowls. She started playing at the age of 11 years old.
She is well supported in the fact that her parents and grandparents are also playing bowls and enjoy it very much – making it quite the family affair. North West bowls encourages all young players, disabled players and any injured other sport discipline players to contact the local bowls clubs and start playing.
The sport of bowls is competitive yet also social and enjoyable. Any person can and should play bowls as it is a sport the entire family can enjoy.
