Top start for defending champions in first club cricket encounter

The defending champions, NWU-Pukke, faced NWU Ibbies in a low scoring contest at the NWU Oval.

The 2021 Wohnen/Top Paints North West Cricket Premier League finally got underway for the first time in a year with the first round of matches taking place on Saturday, 27 February.

The defending champions, NWU-Pukke, faced NWU Ibbies in a low scoring contest at the NWU Oval. Pukke claimed a 31 run Duckworth/Lewis victory after posting 192/9 in their 50 overs.

Ibbies only managed to score 122/7 after 32.4 overs as the NWU-Pukke bowlers tightnened their grip before rain intervened. Chris Brits was the top scorer for NWU with 40 (55) with Ibbies’ Connor de Boer taking 2/27 and Henro Janse van Rensburg a solid 2/28 with his off-spin.

Ibbies’ top scorer with the willow was Janse van Rensburg with 37 (43) whilst Pukke’s Brits (2/30) and Katle Leokaoke (2/21) took the most wickets between them.

Credit must also be given to AJ Jacobs (0/17 from 6 overs) and Juan van der Walt (0/6) from 5 overs for an economical opening spell.
