Ibbies compiled 202/9 in their 50 overs, with Callum Broodryk top-scoring with 64 (88). Potch Dorp put in a great bowling effort with seamers Chad Classen (2/26) and JP le Roux (2/39), doing the early damage.

The spinner, Van Zyl Smit (3/28), put the cherry on the cake. The Potch Dorp opener, Ruan van Abo, hit a fine 60 (42) in the reply, but when the left-hander was dismissed with the score at 69, things started falling apart.

Potch Dorp’s second team was not on the winning end and suffered a six-wicket loss to NWU Taurus at the Ibbies’ Oval. Potch Dorp 2 could only muster 104 all out, with Herman Prinsloo’s 46 being the biggest contribution with the bat. Tylin Clark (3/27) was the chief wrecker with the ball in a solid all-round bowling performance. Taurus made light work of the target, although the team lost a couple of early wickets.

Tiaan Viljoen of Potch Dorp 2 took 3/54. Sithembiso Mothise took his team to victory with an unbeaten 35. The NWU’s first team outclassed the Geek Academy from Rustenburg by 118 runs in a low-scoring encounter. The Geek Academy’s bowlers kept the NWU on the back foot once Sammy Letsoalo broke the opening 66-run partnership between Lourén Steenkamp and Chris Britz.

Britz top-scored for the NWU with 52, but the rest of the NWU batsmen struggled on a difficult pitch. Letsoalo (3/17) and Ottie Ramaboea (3/45) impressed for the team from Rustenburg.

The NWU bowlers dominated the proceedings, bowling their opposition out for only 73. AJ Jacobs (4/23) once again showed his talent with the new ball.

Travelling Reefs won their battle against Ramblers by 71 runs, with stalwart Andreas Joubert smashing 82 (63) in their score of 305/9. His brother, Pieter Joubert, picked up 5/55 with the ball to restrict the Vryburg-based side to 234/9 in their 50 overs.
