Saints netball girls take gold at nationals

It was an incredible day for this young Saints team, as they beat some of the best teams in the country to be crowned champions

Saints Christian School’s netball girls showed they had the character, skill and discipline to take gold at the SACSSA Nationals this month.

It was an incredible day for this young Saints team, as they beat some of the best teams in the country to be crowned champions.

The Saints team had to win five games in their group to qualify for the semi- finals. After doing so, they drew against a very strong Knights Prep. The girls knew they had to put in a huge performance if they had any chance of making it to the finals.

They were 15–10 down with just a couple of minutes to go and the girls did the unthinkable by bringing it back to 15 all to take the match into extra time. Saints never looked back, winning the match by 5–0 in extra time in a magnificent semi-final.

Then came the final and Saints had to play a strong Alma Mater team. Nothing was going to stop these girls after that dramatic comeback in the semi-finals, though. Saints went on to dominate the game, winning the final 9–3.

“We are so proud of our girls for this amazing achievement. We are also super proud of our very own Izelle Botes, who coaches the team. Together with the coaches around her, she has taken Saints’ netball to a whole new level,” stated Saints Christian School in the press release.
