New leadership at North West Cricket

Tebogo Motlhabane (Ikageng Cricket Club) and Phestus Motshabi (Geek Cricket Academy) were the two men running for the presidency seat.

North West Cricket has elected a new president and vice-president this past week during the union’s annual general meeting. Tebogo Motlhabane (president) and Zubayr Minty (vice-president) will fill the new roles in the NW Cricket members council which were officially announced on 31 May at Senwes Park.

Motlhabane (Ikageng Cricket Club) and Phestus Motshabi (Geek Cricket Academy) were the two men running for the presidency seat.

There is currently still an internal dispute regarding the validity of Motlhabane’s election after Ikageng Cricket Club withdrew their initial nomination minutes before the AGM started.

After being under administration since 2018, the North West Cricket clubs had the opportunity to elect a new president, vice-president and two lower league representatives.

The outgoing NWC Administrator, Archie Pretorius elected not to chair the meeting, whilst Cricket South Africa (CSA) nominated a former NWC president Mickey Gordon as chairman of the proceedings, with CSA Compliance Manager, Sindiswa Ngcwabe, in attendance at the meeting as a CSA observer.

Shime Matlhong (Members Council Representative for Second League Members) and Norman Mmusi (Members Council Representative for Lower League Members) were also elected in their respective positions.
