It’s go time for De Beer in main card fight at EFC 88

It has been a long wait for De Beer, who in the lockdown period kept his game up to standard, leaving no stone unturned in his quest to climb the EFC ranks.

Potchefstroom’s top MMA fighter, Roevan de Beer, wants to stake his claim as one of the top guns in the bantamweight category in EFC (Extreme Fighting Championship).

De Beer will want to physically illustrate this with his quick fists and feet in the cage this Saturday, 14 August, in a main card battle with Orlando “Mean Machine” Machava at EFC 88 in Johannesburg.

Machava, who is a Mozambican national, is a late replacement for De Beer’s original challenger, Cameron Saaiman, who had to withdraw due to illness. De Beer has a win loss record of 3-4 and will want to get his record into the 50 per cent mark with a victory in his first competitive EFC event in the Covid-19 landscape.

Machava will be a tricky customer with his strong and aggressive approach. De Beer though has the height and reach advantage and with his tenacity he should be confident of pulling off his first EFC win since EFC 82 (September 2019) when he defeated Themba Mkhize via KO.

It has been a long wait for De Beer, who in the lockdown period kept his game up to standard, leaving no stone unturned in his quest to climb the EFC ranks.

“My training camp has been going well since the beginning of the year. A few of my fights previously got cancelled and now finally I am able to compete in an EFC event this year. I believe I am stronger and fitter than ever before and I believe this fight will prove my talents as a well-rounded mixed martial arts fighter,” stated De Beer.

He is also confident that he will get a victory this coming weekend after putting in the hard work in the training camp.

Roevan de Beer is ready for his fight with Orlando Machava at EFC 88 on Saturday, 14 August.

“I have a lot of respect for my opponent and their training camp under JP Kruger, but I want to try and win the fight inside the first two rounds. I would like get a knockout victory, but I will accept any method of victory,” emphasised De Beer who has a 3-1 win/loss record in the bantamweight division.

“I am really excited to be on the main card for the second time. A win this weekend will put me closer to a number one contender spot for the bantamweight title.”
