Cross Country athletes battle it out at ACNW Champs

Thabang Mosiako took victory in the senior men’s 10km race with a time of 33:41.1.

The Athletics North-West (ACNW) Cross Country Championships took place on Saturday, 28 August, at Mooivallei with the cream of the crop in all age groups battling it out for top spot.

All the regulars performed at their very best on a cool morning. Thabang Mosiako took victory in the senior men’s 10km race with a time of 33:41.1. He finished ahead of a strong group which included Joel Mmone (33:23.5) in second and Ian Slinger (33:26.3) in third.

The NWU’s Rhodé Boon also had an impressive u.23 4km race finishing first in a time of 16:05.2. Rico Leijenaar of Potch Gimnasium took first in a one-sided boys u.16, 6km race. He won in a time of 21:13.2 a whole three minutes ahead of the competition.

Gimmies’ girls also shined in the 4km event with Abigail Viljoen (u.14) taking a first place in 16:11. Kayla Scheppel won the u.15 race in 16:10.9. Illane Herbst took gold in the u.16 race in 16:20.8.

It was a Mooirivier show in the boys 2km u.9 race as four of their athletes completed the top four. Tedrich and Marno Hattingh took first and second places with Christiaan Liebenberg and Michail Coetzer taking third and fourth places respectively.
