Potch riders shine at nationals

One of the top performers was Ernie Roets of Potchefstroom Gimnasium who took gold to be crowned as SA number one rider in his youth age group.

The SA National Cross Country (XCO) mountain bike championships saw Potchefstroom’s finest riders showcase their talent on two wheels at the Cascades in Pietermaritzburg from 25 to 26 September.

One of the top performers was Ernie Roets of Potchefstroom Gimnasium who took gold to be crowned as SA number one rider in his youth age group. Roets has been in fine form this year and finished the season on a high with a win in a time of 56 minutes and 26 seconds over four laps.

Serial winner, Danielle Strydom, also a former Gimmie, showed that she hadn’t lost her touch, with a superb victory in the women’s u.23 race. She completed the five-lap race in one hour, 24 minutes and 30 seconds.
Joné van Eeden took fifth place in the same category in a time of 02.08.05.

Pieter du Toit took fifth in the mens’ u.23 race in a time of 01:23.08, four minutes behind the winner, Tristan Nortje of Western Cape.
