The South African Sailplane Championships was a highlight last week (3–9 October) in Potchefstroom with perfect weather setting the scene for fantastic competition between SA’s best pilots.
The competition took place at the Potchefstroom Airfield and saw numerous competitors taking on the various tasks each day. Precision was paramount and New Zealander, John Coutts showed that, taking the win in the 15 m category with a total of 5,151 points.
Anders Andersen took second (4,708) and Potch-based, Uys Jonker third with 4,556 points. Uys’ brother, Attie, came in fourth, just 12 points adrift on 4,544 points.

The club champion was the young Potchefstroomer representing Akavlieg Potchefstroom, Dicky Daly Jnr who won with a tally of 4,465. He beat David Maver (3,194) and Wilhelm Mosehuus (2,877) into second and third place respectively.
Maarten Jonker and Ronald Termaat won the two-seater category with 4,717 points. Mark Hardman and Beatrice Schaefer won the Stemme category with 3,61 points.
