Western Province end Dragons unbeaten run in low scoring win

It was a tough loss for the Dragons who put everything on the line in a fine bowling performance, despite being dismissed for 172 all out when batting first.

A resilient 39-run partnership for the eighth wicket between man of the match, George Linde (44* off 82) and Beuran Hendricks (17 off 22) took Western Province to a 3 wicket victory against the North West Dragons in their CSA One Day Challenge match at Newlands yesterday (Friday, 9 December).

It was a tough loss for the Dragons who put everything on the line in a fine bowling performance, despite being dismissed for 172 all out when batting first.

The Dragons batsmen never got going with numerous players getting starts, but not soldiering on to bigger scores. The top scorer for the Dragons was Chris Britz with 30 (54).

Linde’s (4/34) with the ball proved to be one part of his match winning performance, where he would later hit 44* to take his side to their third win of the competition.

The Dragons bowlers were fired up with Kerwin Mungroo (3/36) and Eldred Hawken (1/29) keeping Western Province on their toes.

Senuran Muthusamy (2/34) also got the key wicket of Gavin Kaplan caught and bowled for 44 to give the Dragons a sniff.

The Dragons were in it at 134/7, when Hawken snared Wayne Parnell for 3, but Linde showed resolve to take his side home.

The Dragons next play the Dolphins tomorrow (Sunday, 11 December) at the JB Marks Oval.
