Top teams put up their hands at ICC u.19 Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup

Bangladesh, Australia, Sri Lanka (group A), England, Pakistan (group B), New Zealand, West Indies, Ireland (group C) and South Africa, India and UAE (group D) have qualified for the Super Six stage.

Teams are gearing up for the crucial Super Six stage with the group stages coming to a conclusion today (Thursday, 19 January) at the ICC u.19 Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup.

South Africa are in to the Super Six stage after completing a 45-run win against the UAE on Wednesday, 18 January.

Bangladesh, Australia, Sri Lanka (group A), England, Pakistan (group B), New Zealand, West Indies, Ireland (group C) and South Africa, India and UAE (group D) have qualified for the Super Six stage.

Sunday (15 January) was the opening day of matches in Potchefstroom and the big guns did not disappoint. England cruised to victory against hapless Zimbabwe by 176 runs, whilst New Zealand with a 10-wicket victory against Indonesia and the West Indies with an 8 run win against Ireland also showed their capabilities.

Pakistan also defeated newcomers, Rwanda by 8 wickets. South Africa who are playing their group matches at Benoni, started the World Cup with a five-wicket defeat against India, before showing fight in a tense 44-run win against Scotland on Monday, 16 January. SA spin bowler, Madison Landsman picked up the first hat-trick of the tournament in the victory against Scotland in a match where the bowlers came to the party for the hosts.

 

Rwanda caused an upset on Tuesday (17 January) with a surprise 39 run win against fellow Africans, Zimbabwe. Henriette Ishimwe took four wickets in four balls (4/13) to take her side to victory. On the same day the West Indies beat Indonesia by 77 runs, New Zealand cruised past Ireland by 9 wickets, whilst England beat Pakistan by 50 runs.

Australia showcased their pedigree with crushing wins against Australia and Sri Lanka, after Bangladesh produced an upset on the first day of action.

New Zealand’s batters have been in top form with Anna Browning impressive at the top of the order. Niamh Holland (England), Simoné Lourens (SA) and Shweta Sehrawat (India) have also played beautifully with the bat. On the bowling front, Grace Scrivens (England), Tash Wakelin (New Zealand) and Zaida James (West Indies) have been excellent with ball in hand.
