The North West Flames gave their head coach, Elsunet du Plessis, the perfect birthday present, when they recorded a comprehensive 54-26 win against the KZN Kingdom Stars in the Telkom Netball League on Saturday, 3 June.
This was also the first win for the Flames in this year’s competition on their fifth attempt. It was a must win match for Du Plessis’ ladies, after struggling to get going in their previous matches in April in Polokwane.

The Telkom Netball League (TNL) has now shifted to Pretoria at the Heartfelt Arena and this venue change, as well as an extended time off and a return from injury of various key players, has played in the Flames’ favour.
The Flames played clinical netball against the Kingdom Stars and deserved the victory after tasting defeat on four previous occasions.
Goal attack, Caitlin du Plessis, was named as the player of the match. Her link-up play with goal shooter and Protea, Elmeré van der Berg, was excellent and the two piled on the goals with impressive displays.
Captain Tlotlang Mokomela was also in great form against the Kingdom Stars.
The Flames will want to keep this winning feeling in tact in the upcoming matches in order to move up in the division 1 log. The team from North West is currently in fifth place on two points.
The Flames next take on the bottom of the log Eastern Cape Aloes on Saturday, 10 June at 12:00 in Pretoria at the Heartfelt Arena.
