Flames finish in fifth spot in Telkom Netball League

The North West Flames had to settle for an overall fifth place in division 1 after beating the Eastern Cape Aloes in the 5th/6th place playoff match by 54-35.

The 2023 Telkom Netball League came to a stunning close this past weekend with the Gauteng Jaguars winning their sixth title in Pretoria. They beat the Free State Crinums 59-51 in the final.

The North West Flames had to settle for an overall fifth place in division 1 after beating the Eastern Cape Aloes in the 5th/6th place playoff match by 54-35.

NW Flames goal shooter, Elmeré van der Berg, was named as the player of the match after achieving a 90% shooting success rate in the match.

The Flames could only pick up victories against the Aloes and KZN Kingdom Stars this past season and had to stare into defeat against the top four sides this season. This made it difficult for the Flames to push for semi-final places as injuries to top stars also halted their season.

One of the surprises of the Telkom Netball League was the form of the Limpopo Baobabs who not only won the Division 2 title, but also convincingly beat the Kingdom Stars to move up to division 1 next season.

The Kingdom Stars are now relegated to division 2.
