South Africa will take on the Aussies at the J.B. Marks Oval in the third ODI of the five-match series on Tuesday, 12 September in a day-night encounter.

The Proteas are back in Potch this September to face their nemesis, Australia, in the upcoming One Day International series between the two fierce cricketing rivals.

South Africa will take on the Aussies at the J.B. Marks Oval in the third ODI of the five-match series on Tuesday, 12 September in a day-night encounter. This promises to be a mouth-watering encounter and could be a series clincher if the Proteas win the first two ODI’s in Bloemfontein.

South Africa has fond memories of playing in front of a patriotic Potch crowd. They won their previous ODI against West Indies earlier in March this year and also beat Australia by 6 wickets the last time the two teams played in Potchefstroom in 2020, just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.

This ODI series also takes place at a crucial time, just a month ahead of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India that will take place from 5 October – 19 November.

This series will give Proteas players a final opportunity to prove their worth and secure their spots in the World Cup squad.

Temba Bavuma will captain the squad that includes experienced heads, Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Rassie van der Dussen and Kagiso Rabada. A couple of youngsters such as Dewald Brevis and Gerald Coetzee will also want to stake their claim for a World Cup spot.

Keshav Maharaj, who suffered a freak-injury in the summer, has also made a quicker than expected recovery and will want to get back amongst the wickets.

Australia feature a team without star players Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith and will have to rely on Mitchell Marsh (captain) Glenn Maxwell, David Warner and Josh Hazlewood to lead a relatively young side.

Keep an eye out for the big hitting Marcus Stoinis and Travis Head as well as the all-round talent of Cameron Green to put in some key performances as well.
