The North West Dragons hope the start of a new month will also signal a change of fortune after suffering two consecutive losses in the CSA One Day Cup.
The Dragons return to Potch this Sunday, 1 October, for a clash against the also winless Boland Rocks at the J.B. Marks Oval. The match starts at 10:00.
One would feel this is a must-win match for the Dragons if they are to stand a chance of reaching the final.
It has been a disappointing start to the tournament for the Dragons, who lost a tight game against the Dolphins at Kingsmead by three wickets in Durban last Friday, 22 September.
That followed a four-wicket defeat to Western Province on home soil a fortnight ago.
The Dragons had chances to win both matches but could not seal the deal with the ball in hand when defending their first innings scores.
The Dragons made 263/9 against the Dolphins, but Jason Smith (116* off 103
balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes) took the game away from the Dragons with his first A-list
century.
Captain Wihan Lubbe (67), Senuran Muthusamy (67) and Raynard van Tonder
(51) all hit half-centuries but could not kick on as the Dragons failed to up the run rate in
the final 10 overs of their innings.
On the bowling front, the Dragons also had a fantastic start with the ball, with Duan
Jansen (2/49) and Kerwin Mungroo (1/43) impressing. Gideon Peters also got his first
Dragons wicket but was a tad expensive
on the night.
The visitors could not get the wicket off Smith, who played a brilliant
innings on the night. The Rocks have numerous players who could put their hand up, like the Malan brothers, Pieter and Janneman, and experienced pace bowlers Hardus Viljoen
and Glenton Stuurman.
The Dragons should have the edge on home soil, though, especially with the Rocks experiencing a slump in form.
