Runners show their class at Letsgo Potch Marathon

A mix of experienced runners who took on the 42.2km and 21km races and those just wanting to enjoy a shorter 10km or 5km run all had an opportunity to strut their stuff on the day. 

The 2023 Letsgo Potch Marathon took place this morning (Saturday, 28 October) under overcast skies as runners welcomed the cooler conditions on offer.

A mix of experienced runners who took on the 42.2km and 21km races and those just wanting to enjoy a shorter 10km or 5km run all had an opportunity to strut their stuff on the day.

The winner of the 42.2km marathon was Tolo Mooketsi who finished in a time of 02:38:48. Johannes Radebe took second in 02:43:40 and Shenyana Nkomo third in 02:49:28.

The first female finisher of the 42.2km was Michelle Dykman in 3:50:24. Angelique van Greunen took second in 03:55:56 and Zine Slabbert with third in 03:57:17.

The 21.1km race was a battle between Elroy Gelant, Keanu Domingo and Tumisang Monnatala for first place. In the end SA Olympian, Elroy Gelant had too much in the tank in the half-marathon with a first place finish in 1:06:26. Domingo came second in 01:08:54 and Monnatala third in 01:09:38.

Stephany Petro took a well-deserved first in the women’s 21.1km race in a time of 01:28:13. She easily outpaced Steph Ndlovu (01:37:14) and Michelle Fourie (01:41:56) into second and third places respectively.

The 10km race was fast and exciting with favourites, Danielle Verster (35:32) and Mathews Leeto (30:13) winning the women’s and men’s races respectively.

Cornelia Joubert put up a stunning effort to take second place in 36:58, just ahead of 2023 Comrades runner-up, Adele Broodryk in 37:02.

Puseletso Mofokeng continued his good form this season with a second place in the 10km (30:15). The experienced, Jerry Motsau, took third in 31:15.
