Cricket fans flock to watch their favourite Proteas in Potch

The cold did not stop the fans from enjoying a day out at the cricket in Potchefstroom.

Rain had the final say in the third one day international match between South Africa and Australia at the North West Cricket Oval tonight (Wednesday, September 30) as the match was called off in the middle of South Africa’s chase. Australia eventually won by 45 runs (Duckworth-Lewis method).

South Africa were in pursuit of Australia’s score of 322/9 and were on 145/4 after 28 overs when the rain came down. Ryan Rickelton had played beautifully for his 71 (81 balls), but South Africa at that stage were chasing the game with Australia holding the advantage.

Corbin Bosch was the pick of the SA bowlers with 4/60.

Earlier on, Australia captain, Mitchell Marsh hit his third half-century in a row with a brisk 56 (42 balls). Alex Carey also impressed with 74 (88 balls).

South Africa’s best bowler on the day was Corbin Bosch who took 4/60. South Africa also fielded a team with five changes, resting regulars such as Marco Jansen, David Miller, Keshav Maharaj and Temba Bavuma for the match.

The rain ended the ODI match between South Africa and Australia prematurely.

Cricket fans from Potch and the greater North West packed the ground, even though it was overcast and cold for most of the afternoon. Nothing could stop them from seeing their heroes up close, which created an electric atmosphere.

Both teams will now look forward to the test series that will start in Durban on October 9.
