Polished results from 2013 matrics

THE class of 2013 are celebrating their results and the end of their schooling careers.

At Kingsway High School of the 224 pupils who sat for the exams, 187 received bachelor passes; 31 Diplomas, five Higher Certificates and there was one failure.

Top pupil at Kingsway is 2013 Dux, Ordelliah Govender. Her achievements are: English 92%; Afrikaans 96%; maths 93%; life orientation 94%; accounting 98%; life science 94%; physical science 94%; maths paper 3 94%. She also achieved 93% for additional maths, the highest mark in the province, for a non-departmental subject “I am ecstactic with my results, it's more than I expected,” she said. She is studying medicine at the University of Cape Town this year.

Shivaan Jagtee achieved eight As. Michelle Anderson, Shaylen Govender, Nabeela Khan, Lungile Mkhungo, Kimara Naicker, Romello Naidoo, Kreyen Pillay and Tameryn Pillay each achieved seven As.

Minenhle Gumbi, Bheki Maphumulo, Jenay Naidoo, Shilpa Parshotam and Kayla Scally attained six As each. Ra'esah Asmall, Shayne Dewar, Vicaela Gounder, Siphokazi Mqadi, Fezeka Myeza,Fezokuhle Myeza, Siya Ngcama and Phumalele Radebe achieved five A symbols and 17 pupils achieved four As.

Overall the school had 406 As and two As for additional maths.

At Kuswag Skool 84 candidates sat for the exams and the school achieved a 100% pass rate. “I am absolutely thrilled with the results,”said principal Linda Scholtz.

Top pupil is Chantelle Spies with a 90% aggregate. She achieved 92% in Afrikaans; 84% in English first additional language; 74% in maths; 94% in life orientation; 87% in accounting; 99% in business studies; 86% in geography; 97% in history; 89% in life science and 80% in physical science.

Veronique Smith achieved an aggregate of 87%. She attained 86% in Afrikaans; 84% in English first additional language; 63% in maths; 88% in life orientation; 94% in business studies; 98% in history; 91% in hospitality studies and 94% in tourism.

Other top achievers were Alicia van Landberg with 6 As; Vicky van Staden with 5As; and Simone Wagner with 5 As.

At Amanzimtoti High School, out of 141 pupils who wrote their matric examinations, 140 passed, with a 99% pass rate.

Top pupil was Maxim Bailey with an 85% aggregate. Out of nine subjects, he scored six As and three Bs. “It was what I was expecting,” said Maxim. “I didn't get an A for maths, which was disappointing, but I have asked for a re-mark.” Maxim will study towards a B Com part-time in Durban this year while working.

Second was Alex do Santos with an 84% aggregate. In his seven subjects, he claimed five As, one C and one D.

Third was Darren Taylor with 81%, including five As and two Cs.

This is the first time in many years boys claimed the top three positions at the school.

In fourth place and first among the girls was head girl Alicia Puren, who returned an 80% aggregate with four As, two Bs and one C.

“I'm very pleased with the results, especially the 76% bachelor pass rate,” said principal, Louise Lemmer. “All in all, the school achieved 177 subject As.”

At the East Coast Christian College in Illovo, 14 pupils wrote the 2013 exam with a 100% pass rate.

The top pupil was Colin Mkize with two As in isiZulu and life orientation and an aggregate of 71%. Shalini Naidoo was next best, with three As in English HL, business studies and life orientation with an aggregate of 69%.

Sandile Mdhuli was third with an A in isiZulu and an aggregate of 66%.
