Drivers blatantly disregard road rules

Motorists should think of the consequences of driving in the emergency lane to bypass peak hour traffic.

EDITOR – For those who travel on the N2 north from Amanzimtoti each morning during peak traffic hours, this is where lawlessness is witnessed, in all its glory. All the way down to the bottom of Twini Hill.

Let there be any sort of congestion and, all of a sudden, there it begins. Taxis and a few other vehicles driving on their coat-tails pull into the emergency lane, as if it was their own private bus lane.

This means that those who, dutifully stay in their lawful lanes, have to now accommodate an emergency lane full of other vehicles pushing in ahead.

Just a few police cars strategically placed in the emergency lane would put a stop to this entitlement mentality of a select few and leave the lane free for what it was designed to do – let emergency vehicles through.
