EDITOR – I want to comment on your front page story headlined “Proposed mall divides community”.

With regard to the so-called development, there are of course always pros and cons to be considered. My particular concern is the impact intensive development may have on existing infrastructure.

Take for example the shocking state of the so-called national highway running through Amanzimtoti, Kingsburgh and Illovo. This is after all our main link to everywhere, yet it is fast becoming a goat track. Another example of neglect is the Kingsburgh Treatment Works, a vital key point.

This facility is currently operating, but the entire property is overgrown and appears to be derelict and apparently, unmanaged. One gets the impression the place is about to fall apart.

Given the number of sizable industrial, commercial and residential schemes pending, some irregularly approved, continued neglect of infrastructure could see the area end up as a cesspit, a common occurrence in our dear land.

I have raised the issue on Facebook and in writing with the ward councillor, but have had no response. Perhaps the SUN will raise the matter with the relevant authorities?
