Amanzimtoti robbery suspect apprehended

An elderly male was robbed of his cellphone in the Amanzimtoti CBD, however, security officers and police swiftly assisted him.

A ROBBERY suspect was intercepted after allegedly stealing a cellphone from an elderly man in the Amanzimtoti CBD on August 20.

During a routine patrol, ET Rapid Response members noticed an elderly male being robbed of his cellphone.

According to Tony Lokker, of ET Rapid Response, the members sprang into action after calling for assistance via the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) radio network.

CCPO, Metro Police and Amanzimtoti police joined ET Rapid Response officers and the suspect was apprehended following a short foot chase. The elderly man’s cellphone was successfully recovered.

The suspect was taken to the Amanzimtoti police station for further processing.
