AT Amanzimtoti Bowling Club, where quite a few men are away, the organisers of the men’s Scroungers competition, which is normally an all-male affair, decided to invite six members of the fairer sex to make up the numbers needed for this competition.

Surprising all the men, two of the women went through to the finals, to win first and second place.

Leoni (neé van der Poel) Booth, a visitor from Port Edward, took first place, and Toti's own Jean Snyman was a close second. Andrew Walker kept the male pride alive by winning third place. Plate A was won by Peter Labuschagne, with Dave Kemp as runner-up, despite bowling with his non-preferred arm due to a recent shoulder operation. Plate B was won by Chris Whitlock.

At TGIF Lee Jordan had a very lucky night, pulling off a hat-trick by winning the meat, a bottle of wine and the hundred’s board. Well done Lee.

Brian G who was visiting the club also won a bottle of wine, but unfortunately Lofty van Tonder was not present to win the attendance draw when his tab (33) was drawn, so next week the prize goes up to R300.

Two Toti teams played in the Bluff BC annual women's tournament over the weekend, with the team of Barbara Beamson, Delysia Mitchley, Jane Coetzee and Jeanne Alexander coming fifth overall and Doreen Salmond’s team of Mardi Dovale, Bobby Stewart and Jackie Holdrick finishing in sixth place.

Don’t forget potjie day bowls next Sunday, 10 November, which promises to be a great day as usual. Get your 70’s outfits ready and go and have fun in the sun, plus lunch, all for R20. It is R30 for non-bowlers.

Remember that entrance for the women's drawn trips and pairs competitions ends on Sunday, 10 November and Sunday, 17 November respectively, with the first round of the women's drawn trips being played on Saturday, 16 November. Get your names down as soon as possible.

The first round of the men’s nominated trips will be held on Saturday, 9 November, and the men’s nominated pairs on Saturday, 23 November. Diarise these dates.

The lists are now up for the ever-popular potato trips, which is a twilight game to beat the summer heat.

It will run from 17 January until 20 February 2014, so get your team’s names down early, as rinks may be limited due to maintenance.

The club sends birthday greetings to Pat Kirk, Reba Torgius and Chris Viljoen this week and wishes all members who are unwell a speedy return to health, especially Eileen Ambler after her recent fall.
