A STERN warning has been issued to all political parties and independent candidates to remove their election posters ahead of the approaching deadline on June 30.

According to a statement posted by eThekwini Municipality on social media platforms, political parties and private candidates whose posters are not removed after the deadline will be fined R1 193 – based on the number of posters for each party.

The city’s skyline has been noticeably cluttered with campaign posters in recent months as political parties and candidates have vied for attention in the run-up to the elections.

With the voting concluded and the democratic process fulfilled, the municipality now seeks to ensure that the visual clutter is swiftly removed to maintain the city’s cleanliness and visual appeal.

This directive is part of the municipality’s broader efforts to enforce by-laws that regulate signage and advertising in public spaces. It aims to prevent environmental degradation and maintain a pleasant urban environment for residents and visitors alike.

The municipality has also urged residents to report any remaining election posters in public spaces after the deadline as enforcement teams will be deployed to ensure compliance with the removal requirement.

As the deadline approaches, political parties and candidates are encouraged to take immediate action to remove their posters to avoid incurring fines. The municipality’s enforcement measures will commence promptly after the deadline, ensuring that eThekwini returns to its usual visual state.
