Clairwood armed robbery: Accused sentenced to 14 years

The man was sentenced by the Durban Regional Court for a Clairwood armed robbery committed in October 2023.

A MAN convicted of armed robbery was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by the Durban Regional Court recently.

Douglas Sphamandla Ndlovu was sentenced for an armed robbery committed on October 13, 2023, during which he robbed a man of his belongings amounting to R7000.

According to a statement from the police, the victim was walking to work along Seaward Road in Clairwood when he was accosted by two armed men.

Ndlovu was armed with a firearm at the time. He demanded that the victim hand over his belongings including:

  • Bank cards
  • ID card
  • Cellphone and other valuables with an estimated value of R7000.

The victim managed to escape and alerted the police about the incident. The docket was assigned to Sergeant Silindile Mjadu to look into the matter.

The police made an arrest within four days

“I received a call from the victim telling me that he had spotted the suspect at the Clairwood scrap yard. The police were dispatched to the scrap yard to conduct further investigations. Upon arrival, they apprehended the suspect. He was arrested and taken to Montclair Police Station where he was charged accordingly on October 17, 2023,” said Mjadu.

The second suspect is still at large.

The management of Montclair Police Station commended Mjadu for securing the 14-year conviction.
