Man behind bars for possession of unlicensed firearm
The accused, Ntobeko Dlamini, was arrested during a police roadblock in Kenyon Howden Road in Montclair in November 2024.
A 20-YEAR-OLD man was sentenced to two years imprisonment for possession of an unlicensed firearm at the Durban Regional Court recently.
Ntobeko Dlamini was arrested in 2024 in Montclair during a police roadblock on Kenyon Howden Road.
Investigating officer Sergeant Bhekumuzi Dlamini said the conviction will send a clear message to the perpetrators of crime that the Montclair police are committed to remove criminals among the community.
He said the police became suspicious and conducted a search of the vehicle.
“He was driving a car along Kenyon Howden when the police spotted his car and stopped him. Upon searching his car, the police found an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The accused, a resident from KwaMashu, was travelling with his friends in Montclair at the time of the incident. He was immediately arrested and charged for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition,” said Dlamini.
The case was subsequently assigned to Dlamini for further investigation, which led to the successful prosecution of the matter.
Dlamini welcomed the sentence, saying that the conviction sends a clear message to the perpetrators of crime that the Montclair police are committed to removing criminals from the community. He added that illegal firearms contribute to violent crime and that the police will continue conducting operations aimed at curbing such offences.
“The matter proceeded in the Durban Regional Court where the accused was found guilty and sentenced accordingly,” Dlamini added.
