Montclair police hunt SJ Smith Hostel robbers
It is alleged that the suspects broke into a residence, held up the victim, and demanded cash before fleeing the scene.
POLICE in Montclair have launched a manhunt for three suspects who broke into a home at SJ Smith Hostel on March 25, held up the owner, and demanded cash.
According to a police report the victim was inside his room preparing food when the suspects struck.
It is alleged that two suspects entered the room and confronted the victim.

Police spokesperson in Montclair Constable Norah Ndlovu said, “One of the suspects produced a firearm and pointed it at him, preventing any resistance. During the ordeal, the armed suspect and his accomplice demanded valuables while keeping the victim under threat.”
Police reports indicate that one of the suspects took the victim’s cellphone, valued at approximately R2000. Shortly thereafter, a third suspect wearing a mask walked in.
“The trio then proceeded to gather additional items belonging to the victim. These included a sound system valued at R2500 and men’s clothing estimated to be worth R500. After collecting the items, the suspects fled the scene.
“Moments after the suspects left, the victim went outside in an attempt to determine the direction in which they had escaped. He reportedly observed the three men getting into a white Toyota Etios that did not have number plates. The vehicle then drove off, and their direction of travel remains unknown,” Ndlovu added.

Ndlovu said the police were notified soon after the incident. Detective Sergeant Sifiso Shezi from the trio crimes unit was contacted, and all relevant roleplayers were informed as part of the initial response and investigation process.
“No injuries were reported during the robbery, although the victim was left shaken by the incident. Police have not yet made any arrest, and the suspects remain at large,” she added.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have information about the suspects or the vehicle used in the getaway to come forward and assist with the investigation.
Residents in the area have been urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
