Montclair attempted murder accused appears in court

The accused​ is charged with attempted murder after he stabbed his wife at their home in Montclair recently.

A MAN charged with attempted murder appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on May 27.

The accused, Siphesihle Gwamanda, is a resident of Montclair. He was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his wife in the neck following a heated argument at their home on May 18.

Gwamanda appeared for a bail application consideration. The court heard that Gwamanda assaulted his wife, Nonkululeko Cele (37), following their argument. 

According to the information presented in court, the victim was rushed to hospital in a serious condition.

The matter was adjourned until June for bail application and verification of the accused’s physical address.

Their two children, who were present at the time of the incident, were transferred to a place of safety.

Police spokesperson in Montclair, Constable Norah Ndlovu, raised concerns about the increase of gender-based violence cases in the area.

However, Ndlovu said the police are making strides in the fight against GBV as the perpetrators are prosecuted.
