Montclair police spokesperson, Constable Nora Ndlovu, said members of the Montclair Crime Prevention Unit, working together with the Chatsworth task team, acted swiftly on the information and proceeded to a house in Chatsworth where the suspect was believed to be hiding.

“Upon arrival at the premises, police noticed a white Isuzu KB bakkie that was allegedly used in a (reckless and negligent driving) that occurred in Montclair on Friday. Officers then entered the property and proceeded to an outside building where the suspect was located,” said Ndlovu.

The suspect was positively identified by police officers and immediately placed under arrest without incident. Police then conducted a search of the property and recovered 26 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a 9mm magazine and a holster.

The white Isuzu KB bakkie believed to have been used in the earlier incident was also recovered during the operation.

Ndlovu confirmed that no shots were fired during the arrest and that none of the officers involved in the operation sustained injuries.

Further investigations have revealed that the suspect is also wanted in connection with several cases of online fraud in the Montclair area.

It is alleged that he scammed victims through fraudulent online advertisements related to the sale of motor vehicles.

Information from Montclair police suggests that the suspect tricked unsuspecting buyers into making payments for vehicles that either did not exist or were never delivered.

Ndlovu said one victim has already identified the suspect in connection with the fraud cases. Police indicated that additional victims may still come forward as investigations continue.

The suspect is being profiled and remains in custody at the Montclair police station. He is expected to appear in court soon where he will face charges related to attempted murder, reckless and negligent driving, as well as fraud.

Police have urged people who may have been victims of similar scams to report the matter to their nearest police station.
