Police operation leads to two drug arrests

The police were conducting a stop and search operation at the block of flats near Basil February Road when the two men were arrested.

TWO men facing charges of drug possession appeared in the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on July 6 following separate arrests during a police operation in Wentworth.

Members of the Wentworth Metro Police Street Crime and Wentworth Crime Prevention units were conducting stop and search operations when they received information about suspicious activity outside a block of flats in Basil February Road.

The first suspect, aged 34, was arrested on July 3 during a police stop and search operation along Basil February Road, Wentworth. He was allegedly found in possession of 19 packets of suspected cocaine.

Later, police arrested a 19-year-old man who was allegedly found in possession of one packet of suspected cocaine.

Police estimate the street value at about R300 per packet.

Both men were charged with possession of drugs and they are expected to make their second court appearance soon.
