Repairs to damaged sewer line underway on The Bluff
The long-awaited repairs to the damaged section of Lighthouse Road on The Bluff will begin today following the collapse of the sewer line.
MOTORISTS and pedestrians who usually travel on Lighthouse Road, The Bluff, are urged to use alternative routes as repairs to the damaged sewer line and walkway are expected to begin today (November 20).
The Bluff Ratepayers and Residents Association (BRRA) said in a statement the duration of the repairs is currently unknown and will depend on the findings as the municipality proceeds with excavation. The association has advised residents of possible traffic disruptions in the area.

“This is a high-risk repair, so we urge everyone to drive with caution. If possible, consider using alternative routes to help ease traffic congestion and for the safety for everyone.
“We’ve been closely monitoring the situation and escalating it to the relevant authorities to expedite action due to the risks involved. We’ve arranged for Engen to attend the site to ensure that eThekwini Municipality can begin repairs as soon as the current supply chain procurement process is completed,” BRAA said in a statement.

Chairperson of the Bluff Ratepayers and Residents Association Norman Gilbert said, “A sewer line collapsed and that caused the pavement to collapse. Engen and Sapref had to inspect before work could start because they have infrastructure in that area. On Monday, Sapref gave the clearance to eThekwini to start the repairs. Work should start today (November 20).”
