Nolwandle Gcaba, the liaison officer for wards 64 and 65, explained that the contractors began curing on January 26.

The curing of this development is one of the vital parts of the structure since it allows it to be strong and durable.

The project team expressed gratitude to the residents for co-operating during the concrete pour, which lasted 13 hours, and increased trucking on the roads.

Coedmore Bridge became impassable since the 2022 floods and has subjected the residents of wards 64 and 65 to a 45-minute detour for many months.

EThekwini Municipality set aside R48 million for the rehabilitation of the two-lane, 90m bridge, including pedestrian walkways. The project is funded by the National Treasury’s Municipal Disaster Response Grant.
