Two alleged drug dealers nabbed during police sting operation

Two men were arrested in Wentworth following intelligence information received by the police regarding individuals in possession of drugs.

A YOUNGSTER from Wentworth who is facing charges of drug possession was granted R4500 bail following his appearance at the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on February 11.

The accused (18), was arrested during a police sting operation at the Hime Street flats on February 10. During the police raid, a total of 70 capsules of cocaine and 28 red and white capsules of heroine were found.

The Metro police crime watch from Wentworth was conducting operational duties in the Wentworth area when they received intelligence information of a man dealing in drugs.

Police spokesperson in Wentworth, Captain Mbuso Gumede, said officers acted swiftly.

“The police confiscated various amounts of drugs and an undisclosed amount of cash in possession of the accused who is 18-years-old.

“The accused was transported to Wentworth police station, where he was charged accordingly. The station commander Colonel Sinayo Mtshali commended the members for their swift action in bringing the suspect to book,” said Gumede.

The accused will reappear in court soon.

Meanwhile, another man (44), was arrested at Croton Road flats for allegedly dealing in drugs on February 10.

“Upon searching inside the premises, the police seized an assortment of drugs inside the premises,” said Gumede.

Police confiscate rock cocaine and heroine capsules

A total of 1 301 pieces of rock cocaine, 1 197 red and white heroine capsules, a jewellery scale and numerous hand radios were recovered.

An undisclosed amount of cash that was suspected to be gained from drug trafficking was also seized by the police. The accused was charged accordingly and appeared at the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on February 11.

Station commander commend the police for their swift action

Mtshali commended the officers who made the arrest and confiscated such a large amount of narcotics.

“Drugs are a major problem in our society, and they contribute highly to crime,” Gumede added.
