Stolen diesel recovered in Clairwood

The unknown suspects were caught draining diesel from a truck in Chatsworth before fleeing towards Clairwood.

A JOINT operation between security companies and metro police led to the recovery of stolen diesel in Clairwood today (March 6).

Spokesperson for PT Alarms, Dhevan Govindasamy, said their tactical unit team and metro police received information from a businessman at a logistics company in Chatsworth alleging that suspects had drained diesel out of his truck at the port.

“The suspects fled the scene in a bakkie, heading toward Clairwood, with a worker from the company in pursuit. The team was alerted with the location and immediately headed toward Clairwood.

“The location was a small truck yard, where a truck and a container were seen unlocked,” said Govindasamy.

He said the team was joined by metro police and successfully discovered the stolen diesel inside the container.

When the officers arrived at the location, they found a shipping container with more than 30 containers of 25 litres of diesel. It is alleged that the suspects were stealing diesel from other companies and storing it in the shipping container for resale.

“The quantity was more than what was assumed to have been taken. Unfortunately, the team did not effect any arrest as the suspects fled prior to the arrival of the officers. It is believed that  arrests are imminent. Great work by the responding units. Units involved were PT Alarms tactical team and metro police,” Govindasamy added.

Attempts to get comment from the metro police were unsuccessful.
