Bold Inspiration inspires confidence

Like his current rider Anton Marcus, Bold Inspiration is maintaining a high strike rate of wins with five victories in his seven starts to date and should be hard to oppose in Race 7, the Michaelmas Handicap over 1900m at Greyville tonight.

This Horse Chestnut-gelding started off in the Weiho Marwing yard winning twice from his first four starts. Disappointingly Bold Inspiration finished unplaced behind Willow Magic in The Dingaans last November at Turffontein.

Relocated to KZN saw the four-year-old being gelded and three easy wins have been the response from Bold Inspiration. Two of those wins have been on the Polytrack at Greyville and twice jockey Marcus was aboard.

This distance is ideal for this Charles Laird trained runner and his draw of stall No 6 should not be a problem as he seems easy to place.

Zhivago has been comfortably beaten both times he has met Bold Inspiration but is 3.50kg better off for his latest 2.75 length defeat so should at least finish closer to his rival this time.

It is interesting that the Mike de Kock trained Akii Bua participates in this as he is 1kg out at the weights and disappointed in both his comeback races, although they were on the Polytrack. Drawn in pole position should give jockey Warren Kennedy a chance to get the best out of this Australian-bred gelding and he could place.

Serissa has a liking for this course and was not disgraced in last season’s Gold Cup and should prefer this shorter trip.

Joshuas Crown and Emperor Niarchos may lack the class to win this feature but both have place prospects.
