Line Break to score for Bass

Same Jurisdiction, will make her Western Cape debut in the Grade 2 Cape Merchants.

Arguably the country’s best four-year-old filly, Same Jurisdiction, will make her Western Cape debut in the Grade 2 Cape Merchants over 1200m at Kenilworth today.

Duncan Howell’s filly will have a lot to do if she is to win this event as she not only has to beat the boys but she also has to give all of them weight. She is also not a natural 1200m runner although she won over the distance early in her career.

As a result it might be necessary to look to the regular sprinters and on that basis Exelero would be the runner to beat. He is well weighted against his opposition but the concern is his outside draw. Although the race is run down the straight the inside draws do seem better and for that reason the value could lie with Line Break. The Mike Bass stable is in hot form as is stable jockey Grant van Niekerk.

Line Break is 1.5kg better off with Exelero for a 2.25-length beating which on paper, is not enough but the draw could make up the difference.

Others to consider are Mister Matchett and Zambezi River.
