Muzi Yeni on the move in Durban

Princekresh and Justfortheepenny look to be the best rides for Yeni.

Five winners at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday saw Richard Fourie make a dent into Muzi Yeni’s useful lead in the battle for the jockeys’ championship, but Yeni will be looking to make a quick recovery as soon as possible.

Yeni has some decent rides at the Durban course on Wednesday when they race on the Polytrack, and the best look to be Princekresh in Race 6 and Justfortheepenny in Race 7.

A 4kg claiming apprentice took the ride on Princekresh last time and nothing went right for the youngster. Shortly after the start his mount was carried in and after that he was bumped on a number of occasions between eventual winner and re-opposing Esquevelle and One Too Many.

If that was not enough, 300m out the gelding had to steady momentarily when awkwardly placed on the heels of Lucky Dollar. That run should be ignored and the better guide is his penultimate effort when Yeni rode him into a 1.50-length second behind Iron Bark against a strong field.

That was also over 1000m on the Polytrack, the same as Wednesday’s MR 76 Handicap. They also have the benefit of jumping from No 3 draw and should provide decent value in this line-up.

Justfortheepenny contests a MR 65 Handicap over 1800m and looks the one they all have to beat. This seven-year-old gelding has only won twice and Yeni was aboard for both wins.

Overall, he has a good record on Nathan Kotzen’s charge with his 15 rides having provided those two wins and nine places.

This son of Just As Well was costly to follow earlier in his career but has been in good form of late and appeared unlucky not to win his last start when getting going too late to catch Porfirio, who made it three from three.
