Stuart Ferrie’s runner to catch fire at Greyville

Fire Tonic seems to have overcome the respiratory issues that plagued him early in his career

Fire Tonic can get punters off to a winning start at Hollywoodbets Greyville today.

The Wylie Hall gelding might be four years old, but he has been lightly raced and comes into Race 1, a Maiden Handicap over 1400m on the Polytrack, with just eight runs to his name.

Trainer Stuart Ferrie’s charge is back over the course and distance which saw him run his best races as a three-year-old and for the first time, Richard Fourie will be in the irons.

Fire Tonic seems to have overcome the respiratory issues that plagued him early in his career as he hasn’t been making any noises of late. His last run on the turf when second to Galaxy Explorer saw him finish ahead of progressive Player X and Heroic Power, so that looks a useful performance.

He will have to carry top weight, but he is well drawn in barrier No 3 whereas rivals with prominent form such as Mo King and Scampton have drawn wide out.

Dontshootthebarman does seem to hold all the aces in Race 5, a MR 71 Handicap over 1000m.

Dontshootthebarman will be reunited with Fourie who will be looking to make amends after an earlier unlucky defeat.

Followers of Princekresh will have tired of his antics but if the real Princekresh turns up he is likely to be a threat to Dontshootthebarman.

Muzi Yeni, who is currently in a tussle with Fourie this season’s champion jockey race, takes the ride.
