Enchanting Banyana Ba Style a dance away from CL semi’s

Just one more game to go and Mamelodi Sundowns ladies will earn a spot in the Caf Women’s Champions League semi-finals, following a perfect start to the competition with two victories in as many games.

The Pretoria outfit secured a 1-0 victory over Kenya’s Vihiga Queens in the first match, before going on to record another win with a similar score-line against Nigerian based outfit Rivers Angels at the El Salam Stadium on Tuesday.
But, both games weren’t a walk in the park for Banyana Ba Style, especially against the Nigerian champions, with Angels putting them under immense pressure but Downs managed to absorb it and go on to win following a first half goal by captain Zanele Nhlapho.
Midfielder Oratile Mokwena was one of the stand out players for the South Africans in midfield and was subsequently named Player-of-the-Match following the triumph over Angels.
The midfielder admits that they found it difficult to unlock the opposition defence in their search for more goals, but she’s happy the results.
“I am more than happy with the performance of the team. We have shown our overall organisation at the tournament thus far. We would have loved to score more goals, but our opponents showed their defensive robustness. Despite the inability to add to our tally, we kept our composure and that saw us over the line. I am very excited to be acknowledged as the winner of this award, but this prize belongs to the team because we are working together as a unit to achieve our dreams,” said the Downs midfielder.
Downs now lead Group B standings with six points after two matches, while Queens and Asfar of Morocco are tied on three points occupying second and third place respectively, separated by goals difference. And Angels are last on the log having failed to register a single point and they are already knocked-out of the tournament.
