Alcohol abuse rife at AmaZulu, claims former employee

'But because I am an upright man, they could not find anything to use against me. I don’t live the wild life they live,' said Phumlani Dube.

A former AmaZulu FC employee has made serious accusations about the club, which could be the reason the team has failed to rise again this season.

Phumlani Dube, who was the club’s spokesman until November last year, says there is a drinking problem at AmaZulu.

Jealousy and backstabbing are also things that happen inside the Durban side. These are some of allegations Dube made on Wednesday afternoon.

Dube says he was forced to come clean about what is happening at AmaZulu because he had received a cryptic message that he felt threatened his life.

He was fired after an incident where he had a physical altercation with a female colleague in November last year.

Dube alleged that the woman, who is AmaZulu’s marketing manager, had always wanted him out of the club.

He says even when he had left, she still pursued him and badmouthed him at business associates.

“The drinking culture is a big problem at AmaZulu,” Dube told Robert Marawa’s show on 94.7.

“Colleagues were drinking pretty much all day at the Carling Black Label Cup.

“Female colleagues had said we should go to the AmaZulu kiosk to help carry the rest of the merchandise to the bus.

“I helped a colleague with a banner and told her I would not be able to carry the rest due to a pre-existing pain in my lower back.

‘Someone at AmaZulu wanted me out’

“Another colleague came carrying something else, and accused us of doing nothing while she was working.

“I told her she can’t use language like that and she charged towards me and then fell to the ground.

“I had no idea what she was doing, she got up and accused me of assaulting her.

“This happened in full view of police and stadium security. The lady in question was drunk and was drinking all day at the stadium.

“She then went to the CEO, who then phoned me making the accusation towards me. I wrote a letter to HR which was ignored,” explained Dube.

After the incident, Dube was fired by the club. “I believe that some people at AmaZulu did not want me at the club.
