AmaZulu release wayward defender

Konqobe re-joined Usuthu in January after he was initially released at the start of the current campaign.

“AmaZulu can confirm that the club has terminated the services of Ayabulela Konqobe with immediate effect. The two parties reached an amicable agreement on Monday,” read a statement from AmaZulu.

The defender and AmaZulu have had a dicey relationship over the last three seasons with Usuthu sacking him before recalling him back several times.

Usuthu coach Cavin Johnson declined to comment on the player’s departure from the club referring Phakaaathi to Usuthu’s statement.

AmaZulu general manager Lunga Sokhela described Konqobe’s release as “unfortunate”.

“It is not the ideal scenario to cut ties with a player at this stage of the season. We have reached an amicable agreement with Ayabulela and wish him all the best with his future.

“We will not make any further comments on the matter. Right now our main priority is to ensure that the club finishes the season in a positive manner.”
