Baxter in high spirits ahead of Caf clash

SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter is confident his side can turn around a 3-2 first leg defeat against Al-Ahly Shendy.

Baxter’s Matsatsantsa beat Royal Eagles 2-1 in a Nedbank Cup match on Wednesday night.

United have advanced to the next round of the Nedbank Cup while they occupy third place on the log table, with a point separating them and the team on top of the league table.

Following Wednesday night’s performance against a determined Royal Eagles, Baxter believes his side can beat their Caf Confederations cup opponents in Pretoria over the weekend.

“We always said this would be a difficult game. I thought the lads approached it very well,” Baxter said after the Eagles match.

“We’ll try to just recuperate the players as quick as we can. We’ve got a game again at the weekend against Al-Ahly of Sudan, and we want to turn that around.

“We’ve got a decent situation, we’ve got two away-goals, so we’ll try and recuperate the boys, pick the strongest team we can and have a right go at that one.”
