Chiefs may return to action, claims report

By Phakaaathi Reporter

Kaizer Chiefs are said to be planning on returning to action after missing their DStv Premiership fixture against Cape Town City last weekend. Amakhosi were scheduled to play the Citizens at FNB Stadium on Saturday but didn’t turn up.

They had earlier announced that they had written to the PSL to ask that all their remaining fixtures for the year be postponed. And after receiving an unfavorable response, they went ahead and announced that they could not host the game.

They pinned their reasons on a heavy Covid-19 attack which saw 31 of their players, coaches and other support staff turn in positive test results for the deadly viral infection.

With all 32 PSL member clubs having signed into law the rule that no club can use Covid-19 as an excuse to skip or postpone a game, Amakhosi technically had no legs to stand on in their request.

And if the PSL were to follow their rules like they did last season, Amakhosi would lose the game by 3-0 and City would get those points even though they didn’t even get to kick the ball once. City did arrive on time at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening but were locked outside as the venue was not open.

But on Tuesday Laduuma reported that Chiefs were now backtracking on their decision to abandon their games and were planning to honour their fixture against Golden Arrows on Wednesday.

There have however not been any official announcements from Chiefs since Friday evening when they announced that they would not be hosting their game.

The PSL’s silence since the debacle started has been deafening. But it has been revealed that they did reply to Amakhosi to let them know that the games cannot be postponed.

Chiefs are supposed to visit Arrows at Durban’s Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Abafana Bes’thende have gone about their normal preparations for the game.
